Paleo Snacks ~ Chicken Wings

Crispy, spicy chicken wings, one of my favorite (albeit messy) guilty pleasures! While the paleo diet emphasizes lean sources of protein over fatty sources, there are variations depending on what your goals are.  If your goal is to lose weight, then stick to lean protein.  If you want a paleo version of a delicious snack, make the following recipe.  Either way, sporadically indulging in a few wings is a great idea in my opinion since they are cheap, easy to make, and taste awesome! (seriously, have you ever had a bad chicken wing??). The following recipe is just one way to spice up your wings, feel free to experiment with additional spices that you may have in your cabinet.


- 2 to 3 lbs chicken wings and drummettes
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Paprika (smoked, spicy, sweet, or all three!)
- Trader Joe’s South African Smoke Seasoning
- Large mixing bowl
- Aluminum foil
- Baking sheets

The key to crispy wings is dry skin, so the first thing you need to do is make sure the wings and drummettes are super dry. This can be achieved by patting the chicken dry with paper towels. Next, you want to place the dry wings in a large mixing bowl and start drizzling them with olive oil, paprika, and Trader Joe’s South African Smoke Seasoning. Roll up your sleeves and mix the wings, oil and spices with your hands until each one is generously coated.

Wash your hands, preheat the oven to 450 degrees, and line your baking sheets with aluminum foil. Spread the wings out on the baking sheet and pop ‘em in the oven for 30 minutes or until dark and crispy, turning them once after about 15 minutes. Plate the wings and enjoy!
